Frequently Asked
Questions
Q.
What is SUNDEK?
A.
SUNDEK is basically a colored concrete resurfacing material made of Portland
Cement,
silica sand with epoxy and acrylic bonding agents.
Q.
What is involved in installation?
A.
It is a textured surface. The base coat, if necessary on old concrete, is sprayed in a smooth coat over the concrete. Smaller cracks are filled with SUNDEK¨ urethane. Larger cracks are filled with epoxy, welding the separated pieces of concrete together. After that is dry, a texture coat is sprayed out of a hand hopper with material covering 70-80% of the base coat in small drops. These drops are then troweled smooth and are comfortable to walk on. A colored finish is then applied.
Q.
What colors does it come in?
A.
We have a variety of colors to choose from though we generally apply it in earth tones that are most pleasing to the entire landscaping area.
Q.
What is the life expectancy of a SUNDEK¨ application?
A.
It has the life expectancy of concrete. SUNDEK¨ is actually harder than concrete in PSI strength.
Q.
How long does it take to do a job?
A.
From 1 to 4 days depending on whether it is new or old concrete, size of the job, etc. The base coat is allowed to dry for 24-48 hours. Then we apply the texture coat which dries in approximately 3 hours. Usually the following day we then apply the finish coat which dries in approximately 2 hours.
Q.
Is it cool to walk on?
A.
SUNDEK is cooler than concrete but not as cool as kool-deck due to the finish coat we apply on the application to eliminate any variations and make the installation more impervious to stains.
Q.
Will pool water stain SUNDEK¨ or will SUNDEK¨ fade?
A.
No.
Q.
What is the guarantee?
A.
SUNDEK is guaranteed for 2 years against bond failure or chipping, flaking, and peeling.
Q.
How long has the product been in use?
A.
SUNDEK¨ has installed over 215 million square feet worldwide since 1970.
Q.
How does the price of SUNDEK¨ installation compare with removing & replacing
the concrete?
A.
SUNDEK¨ is about 20-25% the cost of removing & replacing concrete. And it looks much better than plain concrete.
Q.
What is the cost per square foot?
A.
Approximately $2-$4 per square foot depending on the job size and the condition of the concrete. $3.50-$4.50 per square foot for SUNDEK¨ brick and tile application. Renovation ONLY !! New concrete is about $1.50-$2.00 per square foot.
Q.
How do I clean my SUNDEK?
