We at family-owned Palapas Plus started in 2001 near San Diego, California. We chose to relocate our company to the Sacramento area in 2003 to introduce our unique shade structure to a new and growing region of California. Prior to opening Palapas Plus my husband Jim and I pursued lengthy careers in law enforcement and nursing. Coming from such challenging jobs we both recognized the need to create a happy, relaxing and stress free environment in our home to escape rigors of the daily grind. Gravitating to the South Pacific, we began to design tropical island, backyard retreats. Palm trees, water sources, outdoor kitchens and fireplaces were all included in our intitial manufactured retreats. However, it really needed something else. It was only after a trip to Mexico that the void was identified. A tropical shade structure was missing. A Palapa is a palm covered shade structure readily identified in Mexico, Bali, Hawaii, Tahiti and most the South Pacific. It was a perfect fit for our outdoor retreats. My husband Jim spent months researching and designing a quality Palapa. A design capable of withstanding extreme conditions in an attractive form. The structural designs currently utilized by Palapas Plus are time tested and are built to the highest standards. The palm leaves allow heat to escape, but block virtually all sun light, and shed up to 95% of rainfall (waterproof Palapas are available). They are a perfect blend of form and function. To complement our Palapa designs, Palapas Plus evolved into Palapas Plus Outdoor Living, introducing custom outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, fire pits, pergolas and other outdoor items. It’s a difficult feeling to identify, but by relaxing under your Palapa with family and friends, it seems your spirit can be easily transported to your favorite tropical destination. A tasty beverage in hand, listening to a calming island tune and the world melts away.
