What
is the cost of not being ready for the next earthquake?
Knowing the Seismic IQ of your house can
help you be prepared. Seismic I.Q. will help you be prepared.
Will
you be ready when the next earthquake strikes?
Scientists at UCLA and the University of Oregon have successfully
predicted recent earthquakes around the world within a few months
of the actual events. They are predicting a possible 6.4 magnitude
earthquake in Southern California some time this summer!
Why
is it important to know the damage an earthquake is likely to cause
to your house?
By knowing the Seismic I.Q. of your house, you can properly assess
the risk of structural damage to your home and protect your most
valuable asset with the sufficient earthquake insurance or seismic
upgrades.
Now
you can benefit from the information real estate professionals have
known for years.
Commercial
real estate professionals have known how to estimate the potential
damage to their buildings from an earthquake for many years. For
the first time, this service is being offered to residential homeowners
at a price any homeowner can afford.
You
can benefit in so many different ways.
By
helping you to assess the potential damage to your home, a Seismic
I.Q. assessment and report can benefit you in many different ways.
- Peace
of mind. Knowing that your house has low damage potential is great
and reassuring news that will give you peace of mind.
- Lower
insurance. A low damage assessment may allow you to negotiate
a better rate with insurance companies.
- Preventive
measures. If the damage potential is higher, you could use that
information to make simple retrofits to your house that can save
you many thousands of dollars when the next earthquake hits.
- Proper
coverage. By taking these preventive measures you may be able
to negotiate lower insurance premiums and at the very least you
will have the information you need to obtain proper coverage
How
do professionals determine your house’s Seismic I.Q. so you
can protect your most valuable asset?
The Seismic I.Q. service is based on a standard widely-adopted in
the real estate industry to evaluate the physical damage risk to
a structure from seismic activity. This standard is known as a Probable
Maximum Loss (“PML”). PML assessments have been used
in the commercial real estate industry for over ten years. This
service will allow you to quantify the amount of physical damage
to your home from a large earthquake
What
do you receive?
After
a site visit to your home by a California licensed professional
engineer, you will receive a Seismic I.Q. report that is typically
15 to 20 pages long and includes site-specific fault maps and photographs.
This report will include a description and assessment of the structural
systems used in your house, the type of soils under your house with
their potential risk of liquefaction and landslides, the proximity
of your house to known active faults (within 100 miles) and will
provide you with a percentage of expected damage.
