Home Remodeling–Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know if it is time to remodel my home?
A: Ultimately, this is a personal decision. A home remodeling project may be used to improve a tired or dated design, replace exhausted or broken fixtures or simply because homeowners desire a change. Whatever the reason, a home remodeling project is typically a great investment. Even in an uncertain real estate market, remodeled homes generally retain their value to a greater degree than their non-remodeled counterparts.
Q: How much does a new kitchen or bathroom cost?
A: Each project is unique. However, statistics show that a kitchen “face-lift” (e.g. countertop, backsplash, new lighting, refacing or refinishing cabinetry) can start at $15,000. A full kitchen remodel can range in price from $50,000 on up. Project costs can vary depending on the size of the space being renovated, materials chosen and the exact scope of the work being performed. A standard, guest-sized bathroom can range from as little as $16,000 to $25,000. A master bathroom can vary greatly, but usually runs approximately $30,000 to $45,000. The cost of the project is dependent on the size of the room and the number of “extras” a client may desire.
Q: How long does it take to install a new kitchen or bathroom?
A: Generally, the average new kitchen or bath requires between 4 to 6 weeks to install.
Q: How does the process work?
A: The first appointment will be in your home, so that we can determine the style, scope and budget for your project. The design process then begins in our showroom. A detailed design is developed and customized according to the client’s taste and budget. Design details include cabinetry layouts, plumbing plans, electrical and tile designs, and selection of finishes. Materials are selected and procured and installation is then scheduled. Once materials have been received, the installation process begins. Towne & Country Design Group, Inc. offers full service project management throughout the life cycle of your project.
Q: What kind of samples do you have in your showroom?
A: Our showroom contains model kitchens and bath vanities, a vast array of cabinetry samples as well as samples of flooring, backsplash and countertop materials.
Q: Aren’t I safer contracting with a nationwide home-improvement store?
A: Generally, no. Large home-improvement stores frequently do not provide the level of service or attention to detail that a home improvement project requires. The large scope of products and services offered at a home-improvement store makes it easy for any one individual project to fall through the cracks. Finally, home-improvement chains must sub-contract out all project work to independent contractors, over whom the stores have little or no control.
Q: Can’t I save money if I buy my own materials?
A: Individual homeowners are typically charged the full retail price for remodeling materials. However, Towne & Country Design Group, Inc. can utilize its purchasing power to negotiate better value for its clients.
